Core IMPACTS Requirements


Satisfactorily complete each of the Core IMPACTS general education requirements, as listed in the Core IMPACTS (General Education Curriculum)  section of this catalog.

Field of Study and Cognate Courses


Satisfactorily complete each of the following courses, which serve as prerequisites or preparatory work for your major classes. Some courses may also be used to fulfill Core IMPACTS requirements. Students who use these courses to fulfill both requirements will have more hours of general electives.

Foreign Language Requirement


Students must demonstrate competence in a foreign language at the level of the second university course (1002).

For students who must take the 1001 and/or 1002 foreign language courses, these courses will be applied to electives and will reduce the total number of elective credits available.

Any of the Chemistry capstone courses indicated in the catalog course descriptions as “Capstone”, or any upper division Physics class beyond PHYS 3005  (i.e. PHYS 3010 -PHYS 4999 ) with department approval.

Major Requirements


  • Complete CHEM 0001 First Year Academic Seminar , with a satisfactory grade. Students who transfer to GC are exempt from this requirement.
  • An average of C or better must be maintained over the 44-59 hours used to satisfy Area F and Major Requirements.
  • Competence in chemistry will be evaluated with the American Chemical Society’s Standardized examinations in Analytical Chemistry, General Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry.
  • Successful completion of senior exit interview.
  • A minimum of 39 hours overall must be at the 3000-4000 level.
