Tuition and Fees

As a unit of the University System of Georgia, Georgia College is a state-supported institution. Students who do not qualify as residents of Georgia must pay out-of-state tuition.

All tuition charges, board, meals and other charges are subject to change. Fee assessments are subject to audit and correction and any such adjustments will be made. Students should monitor their student account regularly for any such adjustments.

Georgia College operates on the semester system. The fees currently listed reflect current rates and are located at http://www.gcsu.edu/businessoffice/tuition-and-fees

Payment of University Expenses

Students are expected to meet all financial obligations when they are due. Georgia College reserves the rights to deny admission, to withhold transcripts, refunds, payments and other educational records, or to cancel the registration of any student who fails to meet financial obligations promptly. It is each student’s responsibility to keep informed of all registration and fee payment dates, deadlines and other requirements by referring to the official calendar of events in the catalog, as well as printed and posted announcements.

All student fees and charges are due and payable at the time stated in the calendar. A student is not officially registered until all fees and charges are paid. No paper bills will be mailed. All students will receive an email through their bobcats email account stating a statement is ready for viewing in the Student Account Center.

Students who have not paid their bill in full by the payment deadline will not have their courses dropped, but will incur a $75 late fee. Students who still have not finalized their bill at the close of business on the first day of classes will be dropped from all courses. Students dropped for non-payment at this time and who desire to re-register for the term will be charged an additional $150 fee to have classes reinstated.

Payment may be made by cash, check, or money order at the university Business Office or by mail. Georgia College accepts American Express, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa and WebCheck for online payments. A 2.85% convenience fee will be charged for all credit card payments. For a small fee, the Nelnet Tuition Payment Plan offers a convenient monthly payment plan for Tuition, Fees, Housing and Meals.

Access the Student Account Center located in PAWS for account activity and bill payment options.

Returned Checks

If the student’s check (paper or electronic webCheck) is returned unpaid by the bank on which it was drawn, the student is subject to payment of the maximum late payment fee, as well as a returned check charge of $25.00. Fee checks returned unpaid after the last cancellation of the semester must be cleared within ten days of the date of the notice or the student will be administratively withdrawn from all classes and charged for the time enrolled.

Any amounts owed to the University that are not cleared when due will be subject to reasonable collection costs that could include collection agency fees, attorney fees, court costs and other charges necessary for the collection of the debt.

Required Deposits

ROOM RESERVATION DEPOSIT ($235) - This deposit is required of all students who apply to live in University housing. The $235 ($200 space reservation/security; $35 non-refundable application) is a one-time fee paid at the time the student submits his/her Housing Application Form to the University Housing Office.

The housing contract is for the entire academic year (fall and spring semesters). Once hall residence is established, the breaking of the room and board contract will result in the forfeiture of the deposit.

For new applications, the deposit is refundable only when written request for cancellation and refund is received in the University Housing Office by the dates outlined in the housing contract.

Special Fees

APPLICATION FEE ($60) - A non-refundable fee is required of all students applying for admission to the University. The fee will be sent with the application for admission. Former students of Georgia College are exempt from the application fee.

GRADUATION FEE ($60) - This fee is required of all degree candidates and is payable at the time the Application for Graduation is submitted. The fee is nontransferable and non-refundable.

COURSE FEE - Certain University departments may charge a course fee in courses requiring extra materials or services of instruction. These fees are listed in the course descriptions and are non-refundable.

LATE PAYMENT FEE ($75) - All student fees are due and payable at the time stated in the University Calendar. A student is not officially registered until all fees and charges are paid. A late payment fee of $75 will be charged beginning the day following the stated payment deadline and is non-refundable.

REINSTATEMENT FEE ($150) - Students dropped for non-payment after the first day of class and who desire to re-register for the term, will be charged and additional $150 fee to have classes reinstated.

COMMUTER CAMPUSES OR CENTERS FEES - The University offers courses throughout its service area. The cost for these courses is dependent upon the program under which they are offered. When courses are dropped at a commuter campus and added at the Milledgeville campus, applicable fees will be added.

TRAFFIC AND PARKING VIOLATION FEES - Each year the University prints an up-to-date set of traffic and parking regulations. These are available upon request from the Department of Public Safety at www.gcsu.edu/publicsafety. Tickets may be issued for violations of traffic and parking regulations. The fine indicated on the ticket is payable to the cashier of the Business Office or at the Parking and Transportation Office. Any student who has unpaid traffic fines may be denied registration, transcripts, refunds, payments, check-cashing privileges, and other college records.

MUSIC FEES - Private Lessons (Applied Music Courses) - These non-refundable fees are in addition to regular course fees. Private instruction, one 50-minute session per week, $250 per term.

ONLINE COURSE FEES - All online programs are programs in which 95% or more of the program’s class contact time is through an online delivery method, and may be associated with differential tuition rates. Click here for the online program rates.

Mandatory Health Insurance

The University System of Georgia requires certain groups of students to have health insurance as a condition of enrollment. We call this “Mandatory Enrollment”. If you fall into one of the mandatory enrollment categories listed below, and you are not covered by an insurance policy (i.e. through parent plans, family plans, or employer-sponsored plans) that meets the minimum standards of insurance as set by the Board of Regents, you must enroll in the USG-SHIP plan. Your registration will be automatic and the charge will be applied to your student bill.

  • All graduate students receiving a Full Tuition Waiver as part of their graduate assistantship award
  • All undergraduate, graduate, and ESL international students holding F or J visas
  • All undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in programs that require proof of health insurance
  • All graduate students receiving fellowhips that fully fund their tuition
  • International Scholars

Refund Policy and Procedures

Students who withdraw from all courses in a term may be provided with a refund of tuition and fees according to the following policy:

Students who withdraw prior to the first day of classes for the term are entitled to a 100% refund of tuition and fees.

The refund amount for students withdrawing from the institution on or after the first day of classes shall be based on a pro rata percentage determined by dividing the number of calendar days in the semester that the student completed by the total calendar days in the semester. The total calendar days in a semester includes weekends, but excludes scheduled breaks of five or more days and days that a student was on a approved leave of absence. The unearned portion shall be refunded up to the point in time that the amount equals 60 per cent.

Students who withdraw from the institution when the calculated percentage of completion is greater than 60 per cent are not entitled to a refund of any portion of institutional charges.

Students who formally withdraw from the institution after the first 60 per cent (in time) of the period of enrollment are not entitled to a refund of any portion of tuition and fees.

Because of the specific nature of the instruction of Applied Music courses, lab fees, and workshops, no refunds of these funds will be made.

Fee Refunds

Students may expect withdrawal refunds approximately thirty days after the beginning of the semester or date of the withdrawal. Refund checks for withdrawals are generally mailed to the student’s home address, unless special handling procedures are requested by the student. Direct deposit enrollment is located in the Student Account Center.

Financial Aid refund checks are mailed to the student’s home address approximately seven days after the first day of class and weekly thereafter. Direct Deposit is the quickest and preferred method of refund delivery.

Refund for Reduction of Course Load

A student who elects to drop a course for which he has registered and paid fees shall receive a refund of fees only if course is dropped on or before the last day to make course changes as indicated in the University Calendar. The student shall then be charged at the per semester rate applicable to the remaining number of semester hours for which he is registered.

If reduction of course load eliminates all hours for that semester, formal withdrawal is necessary.

Refund Formal Withdrawal for Tuition, Fees, Student Housing, and Food Services

The following regulations apply to the regular fees when formal withdrawal is approved (Section 704.04 Board of Regents Policy Manual):
