The Dyslexia Endorsement Program at Georgia College prepares teachers in the foundations of language and literacy development to identify dyslexia and other literacy difficulties. Additionally, the program prepares teachers to implement structured interventions and assessments for students with literacy and language difficulties in pre-kindergarten through second grade. The program is a three-course sequence leading to a Georgia Professional Standards Commission endorsement. This program is embedded in the undergraduate Special Education Bachelor of Science program. The program is also offered as an add-on endorsement at the graduate level (online).

Graduate Admissions Requirements

  1. University Graduate Admissions Application Form including application fee, if applicable.
  2. Two professional recommendations using the College of Education recommendation
  3. Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended (except Georgia College). Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution to be eligible for admission into a graduate program at Georgia College.
  4. Minimal GPA of 2.5

Dismissal Policy

Students are required to maintain a 3.0 GPA during the three-course series that comprise the certificate program. If a student’s GPA falls below a 3.0, he/she may petition to stay in the certificate program for one semester. If, at the end of the semester on probation the student’s GPA is still below a 3.0, he/she will be dismissed from the certificate program. Any student who plagiarizes work will fail that course (receive an F) and be referred to the Judicial Council for a violation of Georgia College’s Honor Code.

Exit Requirements

At the completion of the three-course certificate program students who have met all requirements of the three-course series will be eligible to receive the certificate in dyslexia and, when applicable, they will be recommended to the Professional Standards Commission for the endorsement
