Additional pre-requisite language courses taken to meet this requirement will count toward elective hours. Major/Concentration
- Satisfactorily complete 24 hours from the following courses, with at least one course addressing issues in each of the following regions: South and Central America, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
- A cross-listed course can only count toward the requirement in one discipline.
- Special Topics courses may also be used to fulfill these requirements with the permission of the department chair.
Fine Arts
Satisfactorily complete one of the following courses. Humanities
Satisfactorily complete 9 3000-4000 level hours from PHIL, RELI, or the following courses. Courses from PHIL and RELI must have a global focus and be approved by the department chair. Social Sciences
Satisfactorily complete 9 3000-4000 level hours from AFST courses in the Social Sciences; GEOG courses pertaining to Africa, Asia, Latin America and/or the Caribbean, or the Middle East; HIST courses pertaining to Africa, Asia, Latin America and/or the Caribbean, or the Middle East; or the following POLS courses. For students who must take the 1001, 1002, and/or 2001 foreign language courses, these courses will be applied to electives and will reduce the total number of elective credits available. Capstone
Satisfactorily complete an appropriate 4000-level course that includes a senior research paper/project or complete an appropriate study abroad course. The capstone must be approved by the department chair. Students choosing the Global Studies concentration are strongly encouraged to pursue a semester-long study abroad program, an international internship or an internship with an organization working with an globally diverse population within the United States as their capstone experience. Satisfactorily complete all graduation requirements listed in the academic policies section of this catalog. Earn a grade of C or higher in all courses that count toward major/concentration requirements. |
