Undergraduate certificates may only be earned and will only be awarded in conjunction with a bachelor’s degree. They will not be awarded as an independent credential. In addition, federal financial aid will not pay for a certificate course unless that course is also necessary to complete the 120 hours required for a degree or the 39 hours of required upper-level credit. Contact Financial Aid if you have questions about your federal aid eligibility.

Required Course
Satisfactorily complete the following course: Elective Courses
Satisfactorily complete 9 hours from the following courses. Only three hours of HIST 4960 Internship may be applied to this area. Subtotal: 9
HIST 4950 may only count for credit towards the certificate with a relevant topic of study. Recent topics have included: Jewish Foodways; Food, History, and Culture of East Asia; Alcohol in World History; Feeding the Fire: Foodways in the Civil War Era; Pitmastery: Race & Barbecue in the Slave South; Trouble Brewing, and Discord Distilled: Alcohol in the American Civil War Era. Total Credit Hours: 15-18
- Courses used to fulfill certificate requirements may also be used to fulfill core, major, minor, or other program requirements.
- Federal financial aid will not pay for a certificate course unless that course is also necessary to complete a student’s required number of hours for the bachelor’s degree or another bachelor’s degree requirement. Students should contact the Financial Aid Office if they have questions about their federal aid eligibility.
