MUSC 3650 Jazz History

A survey of the development and evolution of jazz as an American art form. Special attention is paid to social and cultural context. Emphasis will be placed upon the musical styles, artists, and major innovations in each of the various eras of jazz history. New Codeitional topics include, but are not limited to: race, gender, technology, the economics of music, and popular culture.
