HIST 4655 Documenting American History


This course explores themes in American history through the lens of social photography and non-fiction film. Through lectures, readings, photographs, and seminal documentary films, students will learn visual literacy, and the historiographic interpretation and application of photos and films as “texts” in historical research and writing. These historical methods will be contextualized against the backdrop of political, economic, social, and technological changes over time and in specific historical time periods.

Credits Hours: 3

Prerequisite: HIST 2111  or HIST 2112 .
