Graduation Requirements

To qualify for a baccalaureate degree from Georgia College, students must fulfill all of the following requirements:
1. Satisfactorily complete Areas A – E of the core curriculum, Area F, major, and all other degree requirements listed in the student’s program of study.
2. Maintain a minimum 2.0 institutional grade point average.
3. Earn a grade of C or higher in ENGL 1101.
4. Satisfactorily complete any grades of I (Incomplete), IP (In Progress), TN (Transcript Needed), or NR (Not Recorded).
5. Satisfactorily complete a minimum of 120 semester hours for the degree. Some programs, including Education and Music Therapy, require a greater number of hours to complete all requirements. Wellness courses (WELL or ELEW), first year seminar courses (0001), orientation courses, and graduate coursework do not count toward the minimum hours for a degree.
6. Satisfactorily complete a minimum of 39 semester hours at the 3000-4000 level, including at least 21 semester hours at the 3000-4000 level in the major field of study.
7. Satisfactorily complete a minimum of 40 semester hours in residence at Georgia College.
8. Satisfactorily complete a minimum of 18 semester hours in the major (excluding Area F) in residence at Georgia College.
9. Satisfactorily complete 21 of the last 30 semester hours of 3000-4000 level coursework in residence at Georgia College.
10. Satisfactorily complete a first year seminar course. Students who have earned 30 or more hours at another institution after high school graduation and who are accepted to Georgia College as transfer students are exempt from this requirement.
11. Satisfactorily complete the US and Georgia History and the US and Georgia Constitution requirements, either through approved coursework or examination.
12. Satisfactorily complete a senior exit requirement, as specified by the major.
13. Submit a graduation application to the Registrar’s Office, 107 Parks Hall, by the dates indicated in the official University Calendar. Students must also pay the required graduation fee.
14. Satisfactorily complete all requirements within ten calendar years from the date admitted to Georgia College.
15. Satisfactorily complete all requirements using the catalog in effect when the student was admitted to Georgia College, or a later catalog, provided that enrollment is continuous. Students who are not enrolled for one semester or longer, excluding the summer term, must use the catalog in effect at the time of their return to the University.
16. Satisfactorily complete all requirements for the degree no later than the last day of finals in the term in which the degree is to be awarded. Students who fail to meet this deadline will not receive their degrees until the next posting period.
